History of creation TSA lock
After the terrorist attacks dated September 11, 2011, US custom service together with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) have received an absolute right to check every suspicious luggage. Without bothering about suitcase damage: the suitcase could be opened in any possible way.
Broken and plucked suitcase locks were a normal situation. Of course the owners of the suitcases were not happy about this fact because the airlines did not pay for the damaged suitcases.
In order not to provoke a general discontent and to smooth the conflict, US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has cooperated with the world largest luggage manufacturers with the scope to create a universal lock that would minimize damage provoked by the custom control.
The solution of the problem was creation of new coded lock with custom control function – and called TSA lock.
TSA lock – How it works
You close your suitcase TSA lock on the set combination code, and the custom service in case they want to check your suitcase, can open it with a universal key without damaging your suitcase.
The combination code you set on your TSA lock remains untouched. Identification mark of the TSA lock is a red TSA logo, which means that the lock can be opened with the special key.
Today the keys for TSA lock have only custom service of US, Canada, Great Britain and Israel. This is why if you plan to travel in one of these countries you should buy a TSA lock.
